Overview

Hao Yao Clay Pot Chicken Rice stands out in the bustling USJ food scene as a dedicated claypot chicken rice eatery. Nestled at Jalan USJ 14/1l in Subang Jaya, this humble stall brings a sense of tradition and comfort to the neighborhood. The signature claypot chicken rice here is cooked slowly over charcoal, allowing the rice to develop a rich aroma and slightly crisp crust that enhances the overall texture. The dish leans towards a slightly sweet and moist profile, setting it apart from other claypot variations.

Portion sizes are generous, making it suitable for both solo diners and pairs who wish to share. Regulars praise the authentic taste that recalls heritage flavors, especially when paired with their selection of house-brewed red wine—a nod to the Hockchew roots of the vendor. The soups offered, such as old cucumber and ABC soup, provide a refreshing counterbalance to the richness of the claypot, completing the meal with warmth and depth.

The stall operates within a kopitiam environment, offering a modest and no-frills dining space. While seating is limited and the setting may feel tight, it reflects the authentic street food culture Malaysia is known for. Peak hours can see wait times due to limited manpower, but the attentive cooking, spearheaded by the dedicated auntie behind the stove, ensures careful preparation and consistent quality.

Hao Yao appeals primarily to those seeking an approachable yet distinctive interpretation of claypot chicken rice—customers who value flavor and tradition over lavish presentation. Its location, easily accessible near popular kopitiams in USJ, makes it a convenient stop for locals and adventurous food lovers alike. The simplicity of the setting, coupled with sincere flavors, preserves an honest culinary experience that resonates with the local palate.

This is the only Claypot Chicken Rice stall in USJ! Very tasty and good portion size at reasonable price $! Cost RM10 for one person serving. Due to manpower shortage, the waiting time can be up to 30 mins during peak hours. There are various types of soups - water cress, ABC and Old cucumber soup at RM7 per bowl.

First time trying the Claypot Chicken rice here. Ordered "Big" for 2 person sharing, which cost only RM20, quite cheap. It tasted a little bit more on the sweet side and more wet compared to other claypot chicken rice. Personally also feel it taste a bit like "loh mai kai" Overall decent claypot chicken rice, don't mind visiting again.

Came here to tapao clay pot chicken rice and 2 soup for dinner. Great taste and reasonable price. Claypot Rice is boiled over charcoal and auntie is cooking alone. If you are in the vicinity, can come over to support. Located at the TinSum Chang Kee kopitiam OR simply behind Meisek kopitiam. Street parking available altho can be challenging during peak hours.

One of the more decent claypot chicken rice places in USJ. For its price, I would expect a little more chicken pieces but other than that it’s pretty nice and relatively affordable. They also serve steamed Chinese soup, we tried the old cucumber soup which was pretty good. There’s not a lot of tables here but this place doesn’t really get that busy (only 2 stalls open in the evenings anyway) so that shouldn’t be a big problem. Hygiene-wise, it’s the usual close one eye situation for most kopitiams in Malaysia, we saw a huge rat scurry past the stall the last time we were there.

Nowadays difficult to find a claypot rice. This shop is definitely a worth to try. Price is reasonable at 10 bucks. Good portion size. It's not totally dry type at some places. A little on wet side but not soggy.

Chicken was rather dry. I suspect they cooked it separately from the rice. And mix it together when they get a order. But flavor overall is nice.
